The leading champion of Social Justice in Congress for those of us with disabilities, Senator Ted Kennedy has died. Coping with brain cancer for the past 15 months he still was advocating for the inclusion in Health Reform of the tenets of the Community Choice and CLASS Acts along with Health Care for All. ILCNSCA will miss his support of many independent living and disabilities rights issues. As Senator Harken stated many times, Senator Kennedy was the force behind the Americans with Disability Act, asking Senator Harken, a then junior Senator, to take the lead on civil rights for those of us with disabilities. We will miss the Senator and send our sympathy to the Kennedy family. .
Late afternoon on August 11, 2009 Governor Patrick canceled all MBTA Workshops including the one scheduled for Salem on August 17. He stated that no cuts at present will occur. ILCNSCA will keep you informed of next steps as we find out Governor Patrick’s plans..
The ILCNSCA sends its sympathy to the Shriver and Kennedy families for their loss of Eunice Shriver. We will miss her advocacy for those of us with disabilities in typical activities. Her consistent leadership on inclusion is appreciated. We will miss her..
