Rewarding Work and Mass. PCA Workforce Council launch new web-based directory

Rewarding Work Resources, in conjunction with the Mass. PCA Workforce Council, has recently launched the Massachusetts PCA Directory – a new, web-based referral directory that will greatly expand access to PCA care throughout the state for elders and people with disabilities and their families. A launch event took place in Boston at the State House on September 14; a second launch event is scheduled for Springfield on September 22.

More than 17,000 residents who qualify for MassHealth PCA services will have free access to the directory, accessible through the official Mass.gov website –
http://mass.gov/findpca
– as well as at www.RewardingWork.org. The directory also is free to individuals who are self-directing and receive services from the MA Department of Developmental Services (formerly known as the Department of Mental Retardation).

The website is completely accessible for people who use any kind of assistive technology, and font size can easily be adjusted for better readability. In addition, the site is bilingual – with web pages available in English and Spanish. Program brochures and posters include Spanish text. Call Center operators can handle calls in either language.

Rewarding Work and the Massachusetts PCA Workforce Council have enlisted the help of the state’s Personal Care Management (PCM) agencies to assist individuals with no access to computers finding qualified PCAs. Rewarding Work is responsible for recruitment and outreach activities to increase awareness of the website among people with disabilities and elders, PCAs, and potential PCAs. A Public Service Announcement will soon begin airing on television, cable and radio stations throughout the state.

Individuals in Massachusetts who do not qualify for the free Mass PCA Directory may continue to use www.RewardingWork.org, which is accessible to all for a small fee, and provides access to the same database of qualified workers. As always, the directory is free to people seeking employment as PCAs. Workers may register on the website or by telephone, toll-free, at 1-866-211-WORK (9675). For more information on the directory, email us at info@rewardingwork.org.
