NCIL Advocacy Priorities

Each year the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) puts forth its priorities for addressing and mitigating and erasing the barriers to independent living. Please read the new Advocacy Priorities which were developed from NCIL members input and have your voice heard.

Executive Director Mary Margaret Moore and Direct Service Coordinator Janet Bergstrom will be in Washington, DC next week at the NCIL Annual Conference. This will be a time for IL advocates from across the country and from across the globe to gather and share strategies and successes in disability rights as well as furthering independent living values. Become a NCIL member and support this movement! ILCNSCA is a NCIL member and Mary Margaret Moore, ILCNSCA Executive Director is a member at large on the NCIL Board. Get involved!

If you have a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan (HMO, PPO), you should be receiving information from your plan by the end of September. It is important to read and save this information because it explains the changes in your plan for 2015.

During Medicare’s Open Enrollment, you will have a chance to change your plan for next year. SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone….on Medicare) Counselors can help you understand your plan changes, as well as other options you may have. Appointments are limited so make your appointment soon.

Trained SHINE counselors offer free, confidential counseling on all aspects of Medicare and related health insurance programs. To make an appointment with the SHINE counselor, please contact ILCNSCA at 978-741-0077 and ask for Janet Bergstrom who will seamlessly connect you to a SHINE counselor, or you may also call the Regional SHINE office at Mystic Valley Elder Services in Malden at 781-388-4845.
