Where: Independent Living Center of North Shore & Cape Ann 27 Congress Street, Suite 107, Salem, MA Time: 6:30 PM-8 PM Although 1 in 10 people hear voices, many chose not to talk about them. A Hearing Voices Group is a place where people can meet to talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. It offers mutual support and friendship, with the opportunity to explore your experiences and also finding ways of coping with and learning strategies for dealing better with “extreme states of being.” Hearing Voices Network USA (www.hearingvoicesusa.org/) was founded in 2010 to change the assumptions made about these phenomenon, and does not “pathologize” hearing voices or other emotional states. Main stream psychiatry ideas about “hallucinations” are they are not real. The core idea of the Hearing Voices approach is that experiences people are having are happening to them. Become part of a worldwide movement which teaches new ways to cope (www.intervoiceonline.org).
